La violencia mediática es un análisis de la relación entre comunicación y poder, de cómo las clases dominantes ejercen la violencia a través de los medios de comunicación, manipulando conciencias y usando sofisticadas técnicas de engaño, estimulando la pérdida del diálogo, evitar la confrontación de ideas, aquello que nos permite contrastar opiniones y construir saberes. Una forma moderna de guerra se libra en pantallas, periódicos y radios y atenta contra la autodeterminación de los pueblos; secuestra la libertad y el conocimiento. Esta obra constituye una herramienta para la resistencia y la contrainformación. Vicente Romano, comunicólogo, catedrático, ha realizado una amplia labor dedicada a la relación entre cultura, comunicación y conciencia. Entre sus principales obras se cuentan: El tiempo y el espacio en la comunicación (1998), Ecología de la comunicación (2004), La intoxicación lingüística (2007) y su obra divulgativa La formación de la mentalidad sumisa (1993).
